Effortless vs Lazy

It's much more complimentary to use "effortless" to describe lazy habits.
Don't feel like putting makeup on? I didn't need it, I was going for "effortless" beauty.
Don't really feel like ironing {i never do}? Denim and a tee suffice for "effortless" style.
Lazy is hereby removed from my vocabulary {in describing myself, at least}.

She Wins

Photobucket
This photo illustrates two of her most annoying habits lately.
a)Getting her to sleep by herself, all night, is literally an endurance sport.
b)Her insistence on a bandaid for every. tiny. little. boo-boo.

She's really lucky she's cute and I love her.

NV Breastfeeds

Today Bauer and I were in a photoshoot for the 2012 NV Breastfeeds calendar. Which I was stoked about because a)I like encouraging breastfeeding and b)I only have random self portraits nursing and I'd love a real commemorative photo.
Only downside was that it is flipping hot. And I showed up 30min early since by the time we got home from daycare, we would've had to turn right back around and leave. So I took some of my own pics there. And then more when we got home. Photobomb!

I miss the "terrible" Twos

People talk about terrible twos. I liked two. She was an easily redirected, happy child. Come 3, her stubbornness and whine-endurance reached new heights. She has opinions. She thinks they matter. And apparently this affliction just gets worse each year until she moves out.
When she was two, I would make her little rompers and she would put them on with excitement (the fabric has mermaids or puppies!) and go about her business. Well, no more.
"This itches."
"I look like a baby."
"I wanna take this off."
{insert anxious fidgeting until permission is given}

Nothing is quite as irritating as when you've made your child something you thought tthey'd love only for them to poo-poo it.
But at least she's a good enough sport to model it for me before shedding it like an annoyingly damp swimsuit.

I also solved the maxi length issue I described here, by making my own, nice and long!

Celebrate

Several times on Oprah's farewell season she referenced an episode she did with Phil McGraw {I have to try really hard not to roll my eyes here} where a woman was devastated by the murder of her 18yo daughter 10 years prior. She confessed to them that she had planned to take her life after her appearance on the show. Dr. Phil said something after that that really resonated with me, and of course the lady's reaction obviously stuck with Oprah since she brings it up often.
Why do you choose to belabor the day that she died, instead of celebrating the wonderful 18yrs that she lived?
Four years ago today my little brother drowned where the American and Sacramento rivers meet. Just before he was supposed to come out to Vegas and meet his baby niece for the first time. And days like today, it's very easy for me to get caught up in the feelings of that day and to dwell on my morbid imaginations of what his last moments were like. I can cry myself into a panic attack.
I'd like to think that I'm past that though. That I've cried enough and I can miss him with only happy memories rather than pain. I'm trying.

Date Day

I went on a day date with Damon the other day. We saw the new X Men movie. Aside from a tiff (or tift??) about the popcorn {seriously, I don't play about movie theater popcorn}, we had a great time and thought the movie was pretty terrific.

Seriously

Level 3 of The 30 Day Shred is freaking killing me. I can do all of the moves easily, but the endurance/stamina to get through entire sets at the pace they're doing it... holy sh!t. I think I'll be doing it for at least 2wks before I get through it without the "I'm dying" sensation.

A Must-Read

I came across this free download today browsing a parenting forum.
Every parent can relate and laugh. Unless you're really offended by swearing {pssht}. Me, however, I think this very phrase at least a couple times a week dealing with Emberly.

Thrilling and Unexpected

Lace | Everybody, Everywear
This month's Everybody, Everywear feature is lace. Ooh, la, la. I didn't want to wear something the top that I used in the last 30x30 challenge, but I don't own a lot of lace non-underthings. I have a little jacket, that is so cute, but I just couldn't find anything with which to wear it. A sleeveless satiny shell would have been my first choice. Too bad I don't own one of those...
So, instead, here I am, utterly shocked by my thrilling and unexpected choice!
Photobucket
It really is such a pretty top, even if it's been seen on my blog umpteen times already.

3 Strikes, I'm out

Strike 1: Woke Bauer up only 20min into his nap to go to the chiropractor.
Strike 2: The chiropractor had the nerve to look at him.
Strike 3: Then the chiropractor dared speak to him.

Bauer flipped the funk out. Ever since his aunt held him against his will a couple weeks ago, his separation anxiety went from mild fussing and reaching for me to full-fledged "they're-trying-to-kidnap-me-mother, why-won't-you-help!!!?" meltdowns when strangers so much as look at him.
He did not calm down until we got all the way home and he could fall asleep nursing, still sniffling in his sleep from the trauma.
It is so rough being a baby.

Did you know?

If you're employed at See's Candies, you can eat as much candy as you desire?
No, seriously. They told me so.
Note to self: start a list of places at which I may never work, put See's at the top.
